Well, actually, at the time I wrote the last post, I’d already been to bed before, with a word count at 9986. Then, my OCD jumped in : I definitely couldn’t go to sleep with a count that close to 10k! So I went back to the computer and enhanced the last written paragraph with 18 words. Now, I’m at 10004 and I can go sleep!
I have few reflections to make today :
First, I have a problem with ponctuation. I use (almost) indifferently coma, semicolumn and hyphen. Well, I didn’t use hyphen at first and noticed it in other books. Now, I introduced it and use it when I want to make a pause in the phrase. To highlight something important for instance. I use semicolumn less and less often as I go, as I understand that english writers seldom use them (I do write in french with LOTS of semicolumns). The point here is : when do I use them? I’m quite sure I’m currently doing it wrongly.
Second, I’ve written a chunk of dialog last night. Always the same trouble writing it. I’ve put my protagonist before a woman she hates (the one who’s marring her perfect little life). The dialog there was bossy, but I don’t think I conveyed the hatred between those two characters quite well. But, that’s what rewrites are for!
Point of the day : I’ve written my 10K first words in over one week ! Yeah!!!!
Edit : this took me exactly one week from word 1 to word 10000 (well, word 10004, but who’s counting? I guess I am!!)
