Today’s count is at 30 600. Chapter 10 is done – the escape’s planning is over.

Tomorrow, chapter 11 begins. Hopefully, it will be the last chapter of the act, so we will have an act around 33-34K. That’s a good size for a first act (should be around 25-30% of the total length). After that, it will be editing, editing, editing and also doing some outlining for act 2.

Act 2 is still a little fuzzy in my head. I know it will include family stuff, a proposal and a betrayal. I know what event will trigger act3 also, but there is a lot of blank space in here for a chunk that should be about 50k long.

My guts tell me I’m going to drag my characters through the mud just in order to do some length 🙂 And there’s always the discovery writing process going on, so, who knows, I might need 60K for that act. I was planning act 1 to be between 22 and 25 after all.

Small finishing remark : I’m beginning to wonder if I’m not overusing “in late, out early”. There is obviously too much stuff happening off-stage in this novel so far. Maybe during the rewrites, I’ll have to add a chapter or two (or three) to tell that tale.
