Ok, a couple of observations about last night’s session.

First, I re-read what I had written before. Corrected a couple of errors in the way and looked back critically at my prose. Ok, first writer impulse : it completely sucks! I know I’ll have to throw away most of what I write now, so I’d better be less critical for the time being.

I wrote over a thousand words in that session; the total for the prolog is now a little under 2000 words and I’m nearing the end of that story part. Ok, I’ll soon have the full prologue, but there are some nags to cope with there: if I push the ending of the prologue, I might be able to come to 2500 words top. As I told myself that a regular chapter should be between 5000 and 8000 words, I’m short 2500 words if I want a prologue that looks thicker than a leaflet.

First, descriptions are hard to come by! I’ll have to flesh them out. I didn’t want to get too much description in the prologue, especially since it happens in a place I want do describe in the first chapter. I think I can get away with that by using the characters bias to come up with two distinct, yet coherent descriptions of the same place.

Second, my dialogue is way too short and simple. Granted, most of that dialogue is overheard conversation between non-litterate people, but still, I should be able to put more words into it.

So, more words for the descriptions and for the dialog. Hopefully, I’ll manage to double my prologue’s size and come up with a fuller chapter in the end (which I’ll probably trash anyway in the end!).

Last comment : I’m feeling like I have to write the character’s name way too much. I didn’t count the number of times I did that, but I’m sure the results would be quite frightening.

First post on the new system

After like two months of rambling semi-privately, I’ve decided to move my thoughts on a new, more open system. I had started on Google Wave to provide some interaction between me and the would-be readers. The thing is that every time I […]
