And I’m back. Two things about last night.

First, after like a week of outlining, I’ve begun the real writing part. I did 730 words in about three quarters of an hour. Granted, this is a scene I had in my mind for some time now, but the words kept flowing in a nice way.

Very encouraging. I think I managed to convey the character’s situation well. Maybe more on that later.

The funny part is I really thought that I had about two hundred words down, maybe less. When the real result came up, I was quite astonished… and pleased.

That bides well. If I can keep this up, I think I’ll be able to do a thousand words a day, that means the first draft will take me about three months. Ok, I think six is more realistic. That would leave about six months for rewrites and so.

Second, I re-read the introduction of the Rivan Codex by David Eddings last night. In this introduction, Eddings talks about his experience as a writer. Suffice it to say I don’t agree with his views. Ok, you have to write a million words to come up with good stuff, but come on! The recipe for a fantasy : “take perceval + the grail + …” and add women, because Tolkien forgot about them??? (Uh, did he read the Lord of the Rings through to the end?). Silly! And the part about SF writers wanting to invent better screwdrivers? Sheer stupidity.

Hopefully more to say tomorrow.

Note : these two rambling posts are about 670 words. I’ve just doubled my word-count. Yeah me!
