Forgot to write a blog post about my NaNoWriMo advancement yesterday. I didn’t forget to tweet about it, though.

I wrote a nice scene involving a bad guy hunting down a deer and butchering it, thinking all the way that he’d like to do the same to his wife. The deer is officially the second dead (or almost dead) thing in this book. That’s very refreshing, considered the last book had one murder at least per chapter.

Final count for day 5 is at 21 640. I fully expect to break the 25k barrier some time tomorrow, and have time to spare to watch a movie or two in the evening. As things are, I’m calling a halt on today, knowing full well I could squeeze 2 or 3 thousands words from today if I wanted to.

The thing is, I do need some spare time to think about what’s going to happen next in the book. If I don’t, my characters will completely take over, and they’ll bring me somewhere I don’t want to go.

If I follow the formula for a 120 k-words novel, which is about what I usually write, the 30k mark should be the end of act 1, which means I have like 15 pages left to lead my characters to that act’s ending. Let’s be honest here, I’m nowhere the end of act 1 right now. Guess I need to step up the pace somewhat. The trouble is, I know what happens at the end of act 1. Act 2 is still a bit of a mystery to me.

Well, my advance looks like its holding (even though some people in the group broke the 50k mark today). I should have enough to spend a nice con next week (the panels I’ll be watching should appear on my calendar shortly).

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s topic : 25k or maybe more!
