Woah! What a day this has been.

I arrived early as usual and was the first through the gates. Since I already had seen the exposition the day before, I didn’t have much to do besides waiting. I still managed to look at the F. Werber exposition. The writing was funny, but I didn’t think it matched the images that well.

Conference on SF and frontiers this was interesting, though a little messy.

Conference on visiting the stars extremely interesting panel, with lots of information about spatial travel I never really tyought about before

The frontier in US litterature nice panel including Larry Niven. Some of the panelist were a little too academic for my taste, but overall, a good panel.

Meet Brandon this was one of the reasons I came here. Though I know him pretty well, he still managed to say new interesting things. I approached him right after and introduced myself in a torrent of jumbled words. Well, I guess he’s accustomed to that. He said that we could meet during the signing, so after buying some lunch, I went in line for the signing.

Signing with Brandon the line was short, so I didn’t have to wait that much. After a few minutes talking, Brandon told me that I could come back at the end of the signing and ask any question I wanted. That gave me over half an hour Q&A with him. More on that in another post.

Conference on science and creativity also a very instructive panel. Lots of biological and psychological information about the formation of thought processes.

Meet Larry Niven a nice hour hearing one of the giants of hard SF talk about his debuts and the way he combined his ideas to write his books.

Meet Bernard Werber a nice cosy discussion between the author and one of his friends about Bernard’s last novel dealing with humor. A very nice diversion!

Conference on Music and SF definitely the low point of the day for me. I thought this would be an explaination of the relationships between the two. Instead, I got a listing of musics that had SF jackets. This would have been fine except that most of these were experimental music and hard rock. Not my type of music, so this was a very long hour for me!

SF and video games this was a very good panel on two subjects I like. Excellent panel.

So, I got in around 9, and got out at 8h30, a little over 12 hours in the con. I’m beat, as much from all the listening as from the tension of meeting Brandon : I even got cramps on the top of my back. I guess tomorrow should be lighter on me. I should see Brandon again in the next days to answer more questions if I think of good ones. See you tomorrow!
