Ok, this was my third day at the con. A very good day overall, though less interesting panel-wise than yesterday. I had thought that this would be the slowest day, because it’s a work day, but I didn’t take into account one thing : schools field trips!

Meet Scott Westerfeld Scott is the nicest guy ever. He presented us his latest book that he chose to have illustrated heavily. In a sense, this was more a collaboration than anything else. A fascinating hour.

Meet Didier Graffet Didier is an illustrator working on fantasy covers. Besides the artistic value of the work he presented, his views on the relationships between author, editor, and artist were quite insightful.

Signing with Brandon Sanderson I used this signing to get even more questions answered from him (including why did Hariet put the name of Asmodean’s killer in the glossary : how spoilerish can that be?). I’ll recap later my questions and his answers. Suffice it to say that I got almost 45 minutes of Brandon!

Meet Danielle Martinigol She’s mostly a YA author. A good take on collaborative work

Panel on frontiers and spirituality one of the most interesting panels of the day, full of philosophical thoughts, very useful for my current book.

Panel War and frontiers a very interesting discussion on the history of war. I have to side up with Brandon on this one, de-humanisation of the ennemy occured way before the napoleonic wars! Some of the panelists should read more Bernard Cornwell!

Panel on e-publishing a very interesting topic, though I disagreed strongly with most of the panelists there. I guess Eric Flint managed to convince me after all.

Panel on biology and SF the subject could have been good, but the panel was completely taken over by the moderator who never let e panelists finish their answers. Very disappointing.

Building walls even the panelists didn’t understand the subject. Nothing to write home about

Back tomorrow for day 4!
