Great first day at NaNoWriMo : my Scrivener wordcount shows a little over 7000 words, which means I’m 3.2 days ahead of schedule.

I started the day with an hour or so of writing before lunch (I’m happy that November 1st is a holiday, so I could write a lot).

I went to lunch and came back for my afternoon writing session. Around 2, I reached 1900, which meant that every word written today gave me some advance for the dreaded con next week.

I wrote for a couple of hours, and ended the afternoon at 4 200 or so. As my original goal for the first day was 5k, this looked really good.

I then took a little care of myself, with a bath and had dinner. I went back to writing at 8:40 and continued ploughing ahead. I used this time to reset my session counter, as this should be my primary writing time, I wanted to know what I would get from it. The first thousand words went by in over 50 minutes. I took a little 15 minutes recess between 9:45 and 10, and went on. At 10:15, I passed the fated 1700 words, which means that I need an hour and a half to do my daily quota – nice information.

I then pushed the session a little further, taking a small break at one chapter’s end, and went on to the chapter’s end (nice scene, by the way). At this point, I wanted to stop, but my overall counter was showing 6 800 words. I decided it would be a shame to stop so short of the 7k mark, so I went on a little while longer.

Final count is 7020, including 2840 words for my evening session between 8:40PM and 11:00PM.

First day was fun and a very fast write (Topped my personal best which was 4.5k). I expect things to become much more difficult in the next days, as I’ll have to come up with more of the story as I go. Note that Discovery Writing kicked out fast, as Chapter 2 was almost completely a character decision I hadn’t anticipated.

Back today for day 2!
